Naidu puts off bus yatra

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has postponed his bus yatra or 'Atma Gaurava Yatra' which was supposed to be kicked off from the Vizianagaram district from August 25.

The decision reportedly came after several party leaders from the Seemandhra region pointed out that the Samaikyandhra 'sentiment' is very strong in the region and that there was a lot of public anger

against him. Opposition parties had targeted Naidu for the bifurcation of the state, they claimed.

Naidu had planned to gain political mileage over the establishment of a new capital and the development of a new state, said some analysts. "As much as Rs 4 lakh crore is needed to build a city like Hyderabad in the Seemandhra region," he said. However, he soon stopped airing his views, gauging the momentum for an united Andhra.

The TDP chief had planned a bus yatra to act as a peacemaker between the two regions. Seemandhra leaders who were under pressure from people of other parties to agitate for Samaikyandhra told Naidu that if undertakes the yatra without spelling out if he is batting for a united Andhra Pradesh, it might be construed that he is supporting Telangana activists. "Naidu is responsible for the bifurcation of the state. He has to answer this question first before she plans to undertake any yatra," said CPM leader Raghavulu.
